JUAN BENAVIDES works in and around architecture. His work encompasses families of projects, including films, drawings, buildings, collages, photographs, and sound recordings—in no particular order of importance. At present, Juan is based in the Netherlands making films on contemporary architecture, composing music as Mutual Ignorance, and teaching at The Berlage. He obtained a Degree in Architecture from the Universidad de Monterrey in 2014. Since graduating, he started a filmmaking practice where he colaborates closely with architects in the production of videos about contemporary architecture. Between 2015 and 2018 he worked as a project leader in Mexico City-based architectural office Productora, involved in projects like the Chicago Architecture Biennial, Exhibit Columbus, and the MALI museum competition in Lima. In 2016 he obtained the Young Creators Grant from the National Fund for Culture and The Arts (FONCA). He was awarded the renowned Beca Arq. Marcelo Zambrano from CEMEX to study the post-master program at The Berlage, from which he graduated cum laude in 2021.
